Our Story

Welcome To Schug

Founded in 1980, the Schug Winery is the showcase and life-long dream of one of California’s most celebrated winemakers. Drawing on his experience in the production of fine wines in Germany and as founding Winemaker for Joseph Phelps in California, Walter and his wife Gertrud built the winery to focus on Pinot Noir. Nestled in the hills of the cool climate of the Carneros Appellation, the winery is dedicated to Walter’s original passion for graceful and elegant Pinot Noirs.

Sauvignon Blanc

“An aromatic nose of apricots, peaches and Mediterranean herbs. Medium-bodied and rather concentrated and flavorful. Zesty acidity keeps the palate bright throughout. Pleasantly tart.”

2019 Carneros

“Aromas of dried pineapple, spiced apple, lemon curd, flint and praline. It’s full-bodied with crisp acidity. Concentrated and flavorful.”
-James Suckling

2018 Estate Grown

“The 2018 Chardonnay Estate has an open-knit nose of quince, apples and pears with honey-nut nuances. The palate is light to medium-bodied with a good concentration of savory flavors, well-woven freshness and a long finish.”
-Erin Brooks, The Wine Advocate

2018 Carneros
Pinot Noir

“Vibrant cherry, plum and currant flavors are supported by fine-grained tannins. Hints of hot stone emerge midpalate, leading to a finish that lingers with cedar and spice accents and zesty minerality. Drink now through 2023.”
-Wine Spectator

2020 Sonoma Coast
Pinot Noir Rosé

“A pale peach-colored rosé with aromas of raspberries, wild strawberries, pomegranate and rose petals. It’s medium-bodied, fresh and fruity. Creamy and delicious finish. Dry.”
